WashNumbers is run by Diego Hernández, an individual publisher based in Valencia, Spain. This page explains what happens to information when you use this site. It describes what the site actually does today, not what it might do later.

The short version
You can read every page and use every calculator on this site without giving us anything. The calculators run entirely in your browser and the numbers you type into them are never sent to us or stored anywhere.
We use Google Analytics to see which pages get read. That sets two cookies. Everything else on this page is detail.

What the calculators do with your numbers
Nothing leaves your device. Every calculator on WashNumbers runs in your browser using JavaScript. Square footage, costs, hourly rates, margins, chemical concentrations: all of it is processed locally and none of it is transmitted to us, saved to a server, or attached to your analytics record.
Close the tab and it is gone. We could not retrieve what you typed even if you asked us to.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, connected through the Google Site Kit plugin. The tag ID is GT-WVRKBLJ8 and the measurement ID is G-NKZVKXQW1Y.
What it does. It records which pages are viewed, roughly where in the world the visitor is, which site or search sent them, what type of device they are on, and which of our tools get used. We look at it to decide what to write next and to find pages that are broken or ignored.
What it sets. Two cookies in your browser:
_ga, which distinguishes one browser from another. It lasts about two years._ga_NKZVKXQW1Y, which keeps track of a single visit. It lasts about two years.
What we do not do with it. We do not use Analytics to identify individuals, we have not enabled Google Signals or advertising features, and we do not combine analytics data with anything else. We do not sell it or share it with anyone.
Legal basis. Consent, where consent is required for cookies in your country. You can refuse or withdraw it at any time using the privacy preferences link in the footer, and the site works exactly the same without it.
How long it is kept. User-level and event-level data is retained in Google Analytics for 14 months and then deleted automatically.
Google is the processor for this data and may transfer it outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards described in Google’s privacy policy and its data processing terms.
Fonts
Typefaces are served from this site’s own server. No font request goes to Google or to any other third party, so loading a page does not send your IP address anywhere except to our host.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like every web server, theirs records requests: IP address, time, page requested, browser identification. This happens for every visitor as a normal part of running a server and is required to keep the site available and to investigate abuse or faults.
Legal basis. Our legitimate interest in keeping the site running and secure.
We do not use these logs for analytics, we do not link them to anything else, and we do not build profiles from them. They are generated and held by Hostinger under their own operational schedule as part of the hosting service.
The contractor pricing survey
The pricing survey is hosted on Google Forms, which is a Google service. What you submit goes to a Google account we control.
What we ask for. Seven questions about what you charge, answered as ranges rather than exact figures. Contact details are optional and you can complete the whole survey without giving any.
What we do with it. We aggregate the answers into state-level and regional figures for a published pricing report. Individual responses are never published, and where a state has fewer than five responses we merge it into a wider regional figure so nothing can be traced back to one business.
If you give us contact details. We use them only to send you the results before they go public, and, separately and only if you have said yes, to credit your business on our contributors page. Those are two different things and we do not treat one as permission for the other.
Legal basis. Consent, given by choosing to submit the form.
How long. Response data is kept for as long as the pricing report project runs. Contact details are deleted when you ask us to.
Google’s handling of form submissions is covered by Google’s privacy policy.
If you write to contact@washnumbers.com, we keep the message while we deal with it and for up to twelve months afterwards, so we can pick up the thread if you write again. Then it goes.
Legal basis. Our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us.
The public dataset
Our pricing dataset is published as a read-only Google Sheet. Opening it is a visit to Google’s servers and is governed by Google’s own terms. We do not see who opens it and we do not require any sign-in.
Advertising
Advertising on this site is served by Google AdSense.
What that means in practice. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and to measure whether those ads worked. Depending on what you have consented to, those ads may be personalised using information about your previous visits to this and other sites, or they may be non-personalised, which means they are chosen from the page content and general location rather than from any profile.
Your choice. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked before any advertising cookie is set, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the privacy preferences link in the footer. Choosing non-personalised ads does not restrict anything on this site.
Who is doing what. Google acts as an independent controller for the advertising data it collects here, not as our processor. What Google does with it is described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services and in the Google Ads privacy notice.
Opting out elsewhere. You can turn off personalised advertising across Google’s products at Google Ads Settings, and opt out of a wider set of vendors at youradchoices.com or youronlinechoices.eu.
What we do not do. We do not give advertisers access to anything you type into our calculators, we do not pass them your email or survey responses, and no advertiser has any influence over the numbers we publish or the conclusions we draw from them. Advertising pays for the site; it does not shape it.
Children
This site is written for homeowners and contractors and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to ask us for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time without that affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
In practice we hold very little: if you have never contacted us or filled in the survey, we hold nothing that identifies you.
To exercise any of these, write to contact@washnumbers.com. We will answer within one month.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, or to the supervisory authority where you live.
California residents
If you are in California, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. If that changes, this section will say so before it happens.
Managing cookies
Use the privacy preferences link in the footer to change or withdraw what you have agreed to. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with Google’s browser add-on.
Refusing everything does not restrict anything on this site. All the guides and all the calculators work the same.
Changes to this page
When we change how the site handles data, we update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes get a note on the affected page as well.
